Summary Recent studies of work-group effectiveness have found a strong correlation between a shared sense of ‘inclusiveness’ and the ultimate effectiveness (and ‘intelligence’) of the work-group in solving a variety of kinds of collaborative tasks as well as in successfully managing uncertainty and complexity (i.e., resilience).
The Navy has not heretofore fully leveraged these insights much less developed a reliable and validated way of measuring this key notion of ‘inclusiveness’.
This research is intended to:
1) develop a reliable measure of the ‘inclusiveness’ associated with high-performing groups for the Navy;
2) to consequently characterize the key properties of group interactions that generate such senses of ‘inclusiveness’; and
3) explore the relative effectiveness of approaches intended to enhance a group’s capacity to generate ‘a sense of inclusiveness’.
