Summary | This program will employ portable x-ray diffraction (XRD) as a practical means for measuring the residual stresses in aluminum shipboard structures. For FY2014-15, this proposed program will consist of three activities: 1.) field measurements on an operational vessel, 2.) comparison of laboratory and field measurements of residual stresses before and after UIT, and 3.) exploration of the connection between stress level and the nucleation of stress corrosion cracks. |
