Summary |
This research supports the extension of the Framework for Assessing Cost and Technology Project (FACT) with the Monterey Phoenix (MP) system architecture and workflow behavior modeling approach and tool developed at NPS, which allows for integration of models of human behavior (in terms of their decision-making processes and choices) into system architecture models (containing the behaviors of technology employed by humans). Accounting for human interactions with systems under development as well as with other elements in their environment is a crucial piece missing from most system models used in practice, and the lack of adequately modeling the human as part of the system has contributed to pervasive failures to expose (early in the lifecycle) many potential interactions that result in emergent unwanted, hazardous, incorrect or otherwise undesirable behaviors in our systems under design. NPS Tasks: 1. Develop the next version of MP modeling tools, and accompanying documentation. 2. Develop initial MP models of program office and/or operational use cases of interest. 3. Show MARCORSYSCOM subject matter experts how to use and extend the MP models to produce exhaustive and well annotated sets of scenario variants (use cases), and how to use MP in order to expose design flaws and gaps. 4. Experiment with the generation of human and other views for a system of interest from the MP models, consistent with DODAF and NATO frameworks. |
