Summary | Initial research at the Naval Postgraduate School indicates that it is possible to enhance the collection performance of a spacecraft by changing some of the control electronics of a control moment gyros (CMG). Theoretical analysis indicates that the proposed changes will also have the dual effect of rendering the attitude control system fault-tolerant. This proposal will explore this concept by designing and developing new breadboard electronics and testing the concept on an experimental CMG. If successful, the results of this project will have a ripple effect in the design of new CMGs for future system. |
