Summary | We propose l) to deploy the newly developed NPS flux buoy, the Marine Air-Sea Flux (MASFlux), off the coast of Norfolk, VA as part of the Trident Warrior 2013 exercise; 2) to test and evaluate the use of the Navy's operational mesoscale forecast model, COAMPS in its single column model (SCM) form to investigate its potential in characterizing the atmospheric boundary layer in applications for electromagnetic propagation. This project will involve field measurements on board R/V Knorr using two MASFlux buoys and the subsequent data analyses. The project also involves analyses of COAMPS 3-D forecast field for obtaining the external forcing for the SCM and extensive testing of COAMPS SCM in different refraction environment. The data for model validation will include measurements from other field projects as well. |
