Back Enhancements to Attrition Modeling in Logistics Battle Command (LBC)

Summary Logistics Battle Command (LBC) is a closed-form, stochastic, logistics focused simulation developed by the TRADOC Analysis Center-Monterey (TRAC-MTRY) to dynamically forecast and represent logistical demand. LBC can operate in stand-alone mode or connected to a high-resolution combat model, such as COMBATXXI.
The Logistics Battle Command model operates in several ways. As a stand-alone model it can use forecasted data, data from previous simulation runs, or historical data to focus analysis on a range of potential logistical topics. When the model is connected to COMBAT_XXI it can collect OPTEMPO and supply demand data from the simulation and inject sustainment results back into the simulation. It can also connect to an aggregate simulation to estimated logistical demands, provide more detailed analysis of major operations, and inject sustainment results back into the simulation. The model supports a full range of maneuver sustainment studies and analysis from both brigade and below to division and higher.
In this research, we will begin with an assessment of the current LBC infrastructure. Updating the LBC will include integrating enhancements from TRAC-Lee and reestablishing and upgrading the following: Subversion repository for LBC with access to all interested parties; issue tracker for LBC (Bugzilla or equivalent)
Enhancements to LBC will include the following:
- Upgrade LBC to run on latest Java Virtual Machine (JVM); Enable LBC to run on 64 bit architecture including replacing ODBC bridge with Open Source
- Alternatives for database and spreadsheet input/output
- Generate and test LBC installation while maintaining the current 32 bit version for backwards compatibility and verifying that 64 bit version works on recent operating systems (Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8); and explore running LBC on other systems including Linux (32 and 64 bit) and Mac OS (64 bit).
