Summary | In rapid clearance of large areas of mines, a major task is to fast discriminate objects which vary in size, shape, and orientation using tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (TUAV). This task is difficult due to rapidly changing environmental conditions, and high sensor data rates with limited processing abilities in TUAV. To overcome such difficulties, high efficient pattern recognition algorithm will be developed with accurate detection and low false alarming. This research has two stages: (1) development of algorithm for target detection with existing data sets such as Rapid, Overt, Airborne, Reconnaissance (ROAR), and target data supplied by Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City (NSWC-PC); and (2) integration of the algorithm into the sensor package for TUAV detecting, classifying, localizing, and tracking near-surface drifting/oscillating mines in real-time. |
