Summary This proposal is for the continued work to address the problem of fan and compressor operability under the severe conditions that Navy gas turbine engines operate with inlet distortion due to high angle of attack flight and/or steam or hot gas ingestion. The current trend toward increased pressure rise per stage and increased blade aerodynamic loading leads to a reduction in the stable operating range of fans/compressors. Casing treatments are a means through which the stable operating range of the compressor may be extended however at times these can be at the expense of fan/compressor performance and efficiency.
