Summary The goals of this work are multi-faceted, consistent with the various efforts covered by this planning letter. In all cases, however, the focus will be on the flow of energy in the acoustic field. One goal will be to examine information that is available from point measurements of the directional noise fields, and potential applications of this data for geoacoustic inversion. Another goal will be to improve our understanding of the significance of (3-D) propagation effects and quantify their relative importance in areas interest. Particular focus will be placed on propagation in littoral regions and in continental shelf canyons, and how well we can predict the intensity(direction of energy flow) and signal variability (horizontal refraction and impact on horizontal coherence) due to remote sources.
