Summary | Data Science has emerged as an area critical to the mission of the Navy, United States Marine Corps, and the Department of Defense because of the central role it plays in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, talent management, cyber-security, and logistics functional areas. The Department of the Navy desires to create a data-savvy workforce to meet the demands of this role. NPS is uniquely positioned to support this concept with an interdisciplinary team approach to such education and research. To address this goal, NPS developed a tuition-based Academic Certificate in Data Science to introduce students to Data Management, Data Analysis, Data Mining, and Machine Learning. The courses encompass data science education and research activities. The curriculum is composed of four courses where students enroll in one course per quarter for four consecutive quarters. Courses are delivered "live" via several different mediums including Video-Teleconferencing, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams. |
