Summary | The research Is to explore a new semiconductor based ionization radiation detector for potential naval applications. The detector consists of a Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR) and a RC load connected to a DC bias and when exposed to radiation generates pulses which can be detected without additional amplification circuitry. based The detectors can be low cost and manufactured from COTS components, robust simple low voltage systems that are highly modular for numerous applications. As SCR based detectors have previously been validated for use In detection of alpha and beta emitters at NPS. The goat of this thesis will be to design and fabricate a sensor specifically for detection of gamma radiation. |
