Sponsor Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Navy)
Summary Realizing the Secretary of the Navy's ambitious energy goals will require a shift in Navy culture to embrace energy efficient practices across the enterprise, from junior enlisted to senior leaders. Many culture change initiatives have taken decades to implement in the Navy, including racial and gender integration and becoming fully "Joint". Energy culture change must be different. Energy consumption and use have direct impacts on mission, lives, and cost. This project will explore the adoption of new ideas to accelerate the culture changes needed across the Navy enterprise. Specifically the project will:
- Explore the application of insights from behavioral social science research with Columbia University for purposes of enhancing Navy energy efficiency objectives and programs.
- Evaluate innovative concepts related to energy efficiency and behavioral change.
- Share the results publicly to stimulate more such efforts within the Navy, within the Department of defense, within the government in general, and in the private and public sector.
