Back Analysis, Integration and Test of High Energy Lasers on Naval Surface Combatants for Navy Solid State Laser Program
Fiscal Year | 2015 |
Division | Graduate School of Engineering & Applied Science |
Department | Systems Engineering |
Investigator(s) | Nelson, Douglas H. |
Sponsor | Office of Naval Research (Navy) |
Summary | This specific project will utilize a combat systems engineering approach to recommend actions required to create a program of record for a ship-borne High Energy Laser (HEL) Weapon System. The approach will include functional and architecture analysis as well as mission and performance analysis. Closely tied to these efforts will be propagation experiments and measurements in a (near) maritime environment. Close coordination and collaboration with NRL Monterey and other NPS researchers will ensure a highly effective return on investment. Research results from these studies will be incorporated into courses taken by all students in the Systems Engineering curriculum. In addition, this research will support cost-benefit studies sponsored by ASN (RDA) related to fielding HEL weapon systems in our surface combatant fleet. |
