Summary | The proposed research effort will design and determine a feasibility of utilizing a virtual reality Head Mounted Display (HMD) and a commercial-grade laptop to create a VR training environment for Landing Signal Officers (LSO). This training simulation will be designed to support different roles that are encompassed in the LSO operating environment and the overall operation done by a wave team. We propose to research, design, and develop a proof of concept light-weight portable multi-user trainer utilizing a virtual reality Head Mounted Display (HMD) solution to support the actions of each member in the wave team. The objective of this training system is o be used as an augmentation of training provided in device 2H111 (training prior to sessions in 2H111), with a possibility of even replacing the training in 2H111 simulator (Note: additional study would need to be established to investigate if the training objectives for the 2H111 can be reproduced and effectively and efficiently satisfied in the training system proposed in this document). Research grant is designed to support student travel and needs for experimental testbed environment (hardware, software, mics, equipment, shipping costs). |
