Summary Adaptive optics is a technology used to improve the performance of an optical system by measuring and compensating optical aberrations in real-time. Considering adaptive optics early in the design phase can provide viable means to mitigate mission risks and reduced overall weight and cost through the use of light-weight mirrors and support structures. The objective of the project is to investigate adaptive optics system design suitable for rapid refocusing as well as optical corrections due to the thermal distortion of Overhead Persistent InfraRed (OPIR) optics. Understanding of the technical and cost implications for the design of adaptive optics system suitable for OPIR optics is also a focus of the project. The study will include the characterization of aberration for the subject problem, identify the performance requirements of the adaptive optics systems, and provide adaptive optics design recommendations. The resulting adaptive optics system will be an integral part of the telescope and sensor systems of OPIR optics providing enhanced optical performance
