Summary The NPS support to Expeditionary Energy Office (E20) leverages the academic and research expertise, resources, and capabilities that reside at NPS. Led by the core team of NPS faculty in this proposal, the objective of this effort is to foster the next generation of military officers with knowledge of energy related issues, and to leverage NPS expertise for energy-related research and education. A host of centers of excellence, experienced faculty, and experienced military officers, who are the catalysts for all efforts at NPS, are made available to the E20. The research team will recruit Marine Corps students, as well as students from all Services to engage in joint and multidisciplinary studies.
This partnership includes management of an NPS comprehensive USMC expeditionary energy program to help the E20 address the Marine Corps' near term energy issues and plans for achieving long term goals. This effort has an annual project cost of $800,000. Additional funds may be required based on selected theses and research, and will be coordinated with the E20. Costs cover all overhead and routine material for NPS. It accounts for travel for students and faculty involved in the effort. Costs include faculty and staff labor; at least four faculty members will mentor and advise students. The partnering that is the norm for NPS research efforts will garner other staff and faculty with different expertise to be part of the overall effort.
