Summary	The Tailored Adaptive Personality Assessment System (TAPAS) is a non-cognitive assessment instrument designed to measure personality traits and temperament among U.S. Navy applicants. Prior research on TAPAS finds that several TAPAS scales are significant accession predictors. Prior research also indicates that TAPAS scores predict recruit attrition in the Delayed Entry Program (DEP), above and beyond schooling, AFQT scores, and demographics. Furthermore, TAPAS scores appear to predict successful completion of A-school and RTC training. Using TAPAS as an additional personnel selection tool may contribute to a more comprehensive assessment of individual recruits. This study will examine the relationships between attrition behavior and TAPAS scores. This study will conduct a comprehensive review of TAPAS on: (1) attrition; (2) first term survival; and (3) reenlistment. More specifically, the study will investigate whether TAPAS facets and composites can predict attrition behavior at various points during the first term. The study will also investigate which TAPAS scores significantly predict retention in an effort to better classify entrants into the U.S. Navy.
