Summary |
The objective of the proposed effort is to develop a series of educational modules and a "capstone" field experiment centered on optimal search and communications relay with unmanned vehicle systems. These deliverables will be specifically tailored to problems of interest to distance learning (DL) students from the Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) community. New educational content will be generated for delivery via the Curated Heuristic Using a Network of Knowledge (CHUNK) system. These CHUNK modules will guide students on a step-by-step path toward understanding the theory and technologies required to conduct tactically-relevant search missions with unmanned systems in a challenging communications environment. The educational content will culminate with a three-hour in-person course during the DL students "lab week" at NPS in September 2019. The main experimental objective will complement the educational objectives with a hands-on field experiment at Camp Roberts, CA in September 2020. During this one-week event, students will demonstrate their knowledge by implementing optimal search trajectories on a ScanEagle unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in a notional NC3 scenario. The proposed effort includes non-recurring FY19 equipment purchases required to support these ScanEagle flight test capabilities in September 2020 and beyond. |
