Summary | This study will examine the Russo-Ukrainian war's impact on the Middle East. The war has already produced a number of economic and political stressors that have been felt in the region. Further change is undoubtedly to come, and could exasperate current crises, create new ones, and hasten or alter the political and strategic trajectories of some of the region's most powerful states. Russia's war on Ukraine therefore is not simply a challenge for Europe, it will have ripple effects elsewhere, particularly in the Middle East. Those effects will impact U.S. interests and U.S. Navy operations in the region, and possibly more broadly. The present study will examine impacts of the war in order to identify and anticipate, current and potential future challenges, with the aim of assisting and informing the U.S. Navy's ongoing policy and strategic planning efforts regarding the Middle East and beyond. |
