Summary | This study seeks to compare and contrast the challenges facing the United States Navy in conducting operations in three critical maritime domains: the Black Sea, The Baltic, and the Eastern Mediterranean. Each of these three areas has emerged as critical potential friction points for the Navy as a result of changing geostrategic circumstances. The Black Sea and the Baltic, aggressive actions by Russia have created the possibility of full-spectrum conflict that could involve the Navy. In the Eastern Mediterranean, the Syrian civil war has helped fuel a general deterioration in the regional security environment that has great implications for the Navy. This study will compile strategic, operational, and tactical level analysis that will help the Navy develop maritime strategy to address the threats to security in these domains. |
