Back Optimization of Sensor Operation for Search, Surveillance, and Rapid Accurate Decision Making in Maritime, Littoral, and Urban Environments

Summary We propose to continue our development of models and algorithms to support search and interdiction in naval applications. We will proceed along two research paths in FY2016. The first and major path is focused on ASW tactics and operations. Following two meetings with instructors at two different Navy weapons schools, we gained insights about the nature of current ASW operations and identified several tactical and operational issues of concern to the ASW community. These issues form major research topics in this proposal. In the second path we will continue working on research efforts developed over the last several years. One of these efforts focuses on the deployment of multistatic sonar sensors and relates to the ASW realm. The other efforts pertain to the counter-drug project that has been the focus of this work for the last several years. Specifically, we will refine and enhance our models for intelligence input and tactics for searching a target on a line.
