Summary The objective of this continuing project is to develop and operate spacecraft laboratories to provide noteworthy improvements to the Space Systems Curricula. This project has resulted in the development of seven state-of-the-art spacecraft laboratories at the Naval Postgraduate School and has provided on-going support of these facilities. During 2010, many upgrades have been made to the laboratories to support classes and thesis work for students. For the FlatSatCom Laboratory, the ground control system ISCS upgrade was completed and the laboratory operational manual was rewritten to incorporate the new OS/COMET system. New sensors have been installed on the Flexible Spacecraft Simulator and the Three Axis Simulator 2. In the Adaptive Optics Beam Control Laboratory, significant upgrades have been made for the HEL beam control and adaptive optics testbeds. Student workstations and software suites have been upgraded in the design laboratory. Under course AE 4871 (Spacecraft Design and Integration II), students completed a preliminary design of an Operationally Responsive Spacecraft to provide protected EHF communications with resistance to ground based jamming. For the new Segmented Mirror Telescope Laboratory, significant efforts and progress have occurred to make the laboratory operational and ready for student projects and research. During the proposed project period, the laboratories will continue to be maintained and upgraded to provide students with state-of-the-art facilities. The improved facilities will be critical to offer a first-class education and research opportunities for the students in the space systems curricula.
