Summary The project will assess the effectiveness of alternative watchstanding schedules to determine their effects on operational readiness throughout the Navy. The study will focus on performance and alertness levels of USN Sailors while deployed on operational USN surface combatants.
We will also investigate the extent to which alternative watchstanding schedules mitigate the reported stress and fatigue associated with reduced manning. The evaluation will be conducted onboard multiple surface combatants, examining the work, rest, performance and stress levels of the crews as they work various alternative and conventional watchstanding schedules.
