Summary FY21-22 5th Generation Augmented Reality Sprint Building on work that has been done over the past serval years between Naval Aviation Warfare Center-Aircraft Division and the Naval Postgraduate School in the regime of augmented reality, a one-year effort was given to look at some of the different ways we could have better outcomes in maintenance with tools that enhance augmented reality. This effort will be divided into three parts: (1) Supporting the Augmented Reality Remote Maintenance Support Service (ARRMSS) user design evaluation. ARRMSS is a system that is being adopted by the Navy, currently being approved to go on the Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) on our ships. We are looking to assist NAWC-AD in the next iteration of their Human-System design. (2) Designing and testing a system that allows a user to see their hand while it cannot be seen by the human eye (¿x-ray¿ vision). We are anticipating that this will allow maintainers better fidelity on some tasks where they cannot directly see what they are manipulating. (3) Developing a Computer-Aided Drafting software that can be run using augmented reality. A lot of our Navy systems do not have drawings currently available, and we need a way to author content in a rapid and scalable manner. We believe this tool will be very valuable to the process and looking to see if this is feasible.
