Summary	The project will assess an alternative watchstanding schedule to determine its effects on reduced manning and its potential to impact operational readiness throughout the Navy. The study will focus on mood and stress levels as they relate to Sailor watchstanding and manning. We will investigate the extent to which this alternative watchstanding schedule mitigates the reported stress and fatigue associated with reduced manning. The evaluation will employ two ships, one using a conventional watchbill (the control condition) while the other ship will use the alternative 3/9 hour schedule to compare the work, rest, performance and stress levels of the two crews.
