Back High Energy Laser Systems Engineering for Navy Platforms
Fiscal Year | 2013 |
Division | Graduate School of Engineering & Applied Science |
Department | Systems Engineering |
Investigator(s) | Nelson, Douglas H. |
Sponsor | Office of Naval Research (Navy) |
Summary | NPS along with C.N.A. shall begin to conduct a thorough analysis of integration at HEL System and Subsystem levels for a surface ship combatant, that will include identification of issues related to laser device selection (over a possible power range and solid state types, e.g. coherent, incoherent and spectral combined), laser beam control optics including adaptive optics, fire control, and other subsystems. Metrics to be examined include performance requirements, such as slew rates & acceleration and vibration mitigation, and how they affect the integration of the HEL system and subsystem design. Efforts shall be coordinated and informed with the ONR SSL-TM program funded Simulation Exercise (SIMEX) planned for October 2013. |
