Summary | This proposal seeks funding to support rawinsonde measurements for characterizing low-level atmospheric refractivity properties that affect the propagation of electromagnetic wave (EM) propagation in the atmosphere. The project will be done in conjunction with an ONR sponsored Multidisciplinary University Research Initiatives (MURI) project called Coupled Air-sea Processes and EM ducting Research (CASPER) intended to investigate the multiple atmospheric factors affecting EM propagation and to develop improved model physics for EM propagation prediction. The rawinsonde efforts provide vertical profiles at a single location to reveal the vertical layering structure of the atmosphere in temperature, humidity, and mean wind speed and direction. |
