Summary | The NPS proposal has 3 defining attributes: (1) based on team-teaching 48-students NPS developed and refined mappings of competencies to teaching objectives I course materials, and then gained approvals for revising systems engineering (SE). These team taught courses are more expensive due to more labor hours. External funding is crucial. However, impact ofRT-19 work clearly shows faster demonstration of SE competencies than with previous students. (2) AFRICOM and PACOM want the NPS decision support tool for HA/DR missions. NPS proposes 4 innovative components to build on its RT-19 project: real-time data feeds, semantic interpreter, unmanned airborne vehicle and high-altitude balloon for communications; (3) replication and scaling-up of education model will show an increased pool of those interested in SE and improve capabilities of SE talent. During the 2011-2012 academic year, 69-students will participate: 69-NPS resident graduate students, supported by 5-advisors and 4-industry/government mentors will develop and build a real-time data relay based on high-altitude balloon platforms and a swarming, semi-autonomous UAV-based communications relay. These overlay and underlay air-links provide needed communications to COCOMs. Scalable protocols and methods ensure a competitive strategy to increase the number of schools. Applying what we learned: team-teaching improves student learning, DL technologies facilitate scaling, and COCOMs support value. |
