Back Task Force Ocean Collaboration with the Applied Research Laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin
Fiscal Year | 2020 |
Division | Graduate School of Engineering & Applied Science |
Department | Oceanography |
Investigator(s) | Colosi, John A. |
Sponsor | Office of Naval Research (Navy) |
Summary |
Funds are requested for the PI to take two trips per year to ARL/UT for the purposes of collaboration on their Task Force Ocean projects, led by Dr. Marcia Isakson. A total of $20k per year is requested to cover salary and travel costs associated with two one-week visits. Key NPS expertise that will be contributing to the ARL/UT capabilities are: 1) Knowledge of oceanographic water column and surface processes, and impacts on sound propagation (internal waves, spice, eddies, surface waves, ice) 2) Experience with Monte Carlo simulation of sound propagation through complex and random media using realistic ocean parameterizations. 3) Deep expertise in reduced physics theory utilizing ray- and mode-like formalisms applicable to deep and shallow water and mixed layers for statistical moments of the sound field (mean TL, TL errorbar, coherence in space and time, coherence in frequency). 4) Experience with acoustic and oceanographic data collection, analysis, and synthesis. |
