Summary We propose to investigate selective denial-of-service (DoS) in 4G and 5G cellular networks. The proposed DoS will exploit a timing-based vulnerability in the 4G/Long Term Evolution which stems from a lack of encryption and authentication of media access control layer signaling. We proposed to use this vulnerability to influence a target user’s uplink timing such that user equipment to base station communication is denied or degraded.
