Summary The project will assess the effectiveness of alternative watchstanding schedules to determine their effects on operational readiness. The study will focus on cognitive performance, alertness levels and sleep of Marines stationed at Embassy/Consulate security posts. The initial investigation looked at the current state of the Marine Corps Embassy Security Guard (MCESG) program, providing notional alternative work-rest schedules to mitigate reported stress and fatigue. The continued work further evaluated the current work practices using interviews of instructors at MCESG schoolhouse. This follow-on study is designed to collect sleep and performance data from marines stationed at US Embassies to assess the impact of the existing schedules on their reaction times and alertness levels
