Summary | This research applies state-of-the-art through-water acoustic networking technology (Seaweb) to the monitoring of a major national port. The rapid deployability and ad hoc networking of Seaweb nodes supports rapid response to disasters and imminent threats. In collaboration with federal, regional, state, and local agencies, the research team will instrument the Long Beach Middle Harbor with a long-term wireless network infrastructure and with short-term expansion into adjacent waters. The long-term monitoring would sense environmental conditions at one or more stations, including current profile, sea state, and sea level. The data will be published in internet subscribers and streamed to relevant data services. |
