Summary | The proposed research is a feasibility study to determine alternative laser technologies to be employed in resonance ionization mass spectroscopy (RIMS) in analysis of the actinides and fission products, particularly in specifying lasers for robust, field deployable RIMS systems. The RIMS system addresses the feasibility and basic questions related to atomic spectroscopy for rapid post detonation nuclear forensics. The laser study will address critical parameters of lasers necessary for achieving stability, mean wavelength, bandwidth and spectral mode structure. |
