Summary Background and Purpose: The general purpose of these funds is to support and promote the NavalX Central Coast Tech Bridge (C2TB) activities. The C2TB, closely aligned with the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), is uniquely situated to become a leading DoN/DoD innovation hub because of its direct access to operational requirements, students and faculty who understand warfighter needs, and proximity to Silicon Valley. As such, the C2TB will become a nexus for collaboration with industry, DoD and OGA innovation centers, leading academic institutions, and National Labs to enhance innovation and accelerate the development of operationally relevant capabilities. C2TB participants will have direct access to Camp Roberts, the ocean, and cyber ranges for field experimentation.
According to NavalX, "the approach is to connect to these isolated pockets of excellence to capture and scale the methodologies being employed, increasing awareness of cross-Department of Defense (DoD) and external successes, lessons learned, and subject matter experts." NavalX, established in February 2019 by ASN(RDA) James "Hondo" Guerts, recognized NPS and its immediate local community as one of these "pockets of excellence" and announced the establishment of the C2TB in April 2020.
Funds from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) will be used to support activities, services, labor, and materials to provide support, as needed, to further establish the C2TB. This is inclusive of, but not limited to, activities to support collaborative research opportunities at NPS and potential services provided by under NPS" Partnership Intermediary Agreement (PIA) with DefenseWerx and any subsequent PIAs that NPS may enter into with other qualifying organizations.
