Back Utilizing Non-Cognitive Measures for Navy Selection, Classification and Duty Assignment

Prior research on TAPAS (Perna, Mehay, Fahrman, Tick, 2013), indicates that TAPAS scores significantly predict the probability of an applicant to enlist. TAPAS scores are also significantly correlated with demographic characteristics (gender, race, and educational attainment). However, it is unclear whether TAPAS scores can be further utilized to predict other important outcomes, such as RTC attrition, A-school performance, and, ultimately, attrition from the force.
This study will continue these efforts and expand the research on TAPAS in the following ways:
1. Assess the relationship between non-cognitive measures and successful completion of RTC.
2. Investigate the relationship between non-cognitive measures and successful completion of rating-specific A-school.
3. Analyze the relationship of non-cognitive measures and job performance.
4. Estimate whether TAP AS scores significantly predict retention.
5. Compare the predictive power of NCAPS and TAP AS scores. Investigate which tool is better and under what conditions.
