Summary The system investigated will be the NIJ level III hard system. Within this effort ¼" AD 90 ceramic spheres will be incorporated into a rigid high modulus polyurea. Key studies will be the energy dissipated within the front face encapsulated ceramic ball system and the integrated performance using the pressed ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). Through previous studies three different encapsulating polyurea’s have been identified, each of these three encapsulating materials will be used to study the performance encapsulating the ¼" AD 90 ceramic spheres. Ballistic testing will be performed both as an isolated front face system and as a total integrated composite armor system.
