Back High Energy Density New Paradigm Capacitors: Enabling High Power Electric Systems
Fiscal Year | 2016 |

Investigator(s) | Phillips, Jonathan |
Sponsor | Office of Naval Research (Navy) |
Summary | Produce prototypes of new paradigm superdielectric (NPS) capacitors with unprecedented energy density that will enhance battery lifetime, or even (reach goal) replace batteries. Direct applications include lightening the load of the marine expeditionary force, enabling electric based weapons, and increasing the lifetime of remote systems, including robot devices and satellites. Testing will include both field tests and verification by other laboratories. A reach goal is to produce capacitor prototypes with energy density equivalent to the best lithium ion batteries (~2300 J/cm3), but with far higher power capability than any battery. |
