Summary |
We propose to focus our study on the development of a low-cost, large-scale, unmanned, deployable sensor network to support Airfield/Pier Area damage assessment. Expeditionary logistics covers a large number of expeditionary warfighting support areas ranging from repair of physical infrastructure, intelligence, expeditionary networks and communications and remote monitoring of personnel. Given this broad coverage, there is scope to deploy a variety of sensor and networking technologies to address these requirements. We have developed deep expertize in the area by conducting research in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) for the last 12 years and with the Internet of Things (IoT) for the last 4 years. Our most recent research includes development of a remote Listening Post and Observation Post (LPOP) using DARPA ADAPT nodes, Wireless Sensor Buoys for Perimeter Security of Military Vessels and Seabases [IEEE CYBER 2017], and Leveraging Low-cost Devices to Form Self-organizing Sensor Networks in Support of Commander, Seventh Fleet (C7F). We propose to extend our study to the use of low-cost, large-scale, sensor networks for damage assessment of Naval facilities with particular focus on Airfields/Piers. It requires identification of the particular types of sensing modalities to use and the architecture of the network suitable for the deployment environment. |
