Summary | This project is part of the Department Minerva project "The Military-Industrial-Scientific Complex and the Rise of New Powers: Conceptual, Theoretical and Methodological Contributions and the Brazilian Case," led by Professor David Mares at the University of California, San Diego. This Minerva project will generate insights into the relationship among science, technology and military transformation while pushing the boundaries of social science in multiple areas. Brazil is an important case for elaborating and testing these theories and the new data collected will be available for comparative research beyond the Brazilian case. The country has the potential for great power status based on some traditional indicators (economic, population, diplomacy), but there is also the view that it may not be able to put together the big package of technology, intentions and capabilities that would allow it to influence international system in a disproportionate way. |
