Summary To identify how simulators are being used to train personnel in the surface and sub-surface Navy, with a particularly focus on non-technical skills. Non-technical skills are cognitive, social, and personal resource skills that complement technical skills, and contribute to safe and effective task performance (e.g. decision making, situation awareness, communication, managing stress, etc.).
The proposed research will allow the MOVES faculty to better understand how these communities are using simulators for training, and incorporate this knowledge into their lectures and research agendas. Further, an examination of how simulators are employed to train non-technical skills will be carried out in the context of how these skills are being trained in other high-risk organizations.
