Summary | The goal of this project is to apply the zonal shipboard power distribution approach to the design of microgrids on shore installations to achieve energy security, with the additional benefit of allowing modular and progressive upgrades in future years. Zones will be nanogrids, which will manage existing back-up generators with added energy storage and other distributed energy resources to meet the mission requirements of the naval facility. The models and design tools developed as part of an ongoing NSETTI project (FY19-FY21) will be applied and further enhanced to design back-up nanogrids for selected critical loads in NAS Sigonella and NSA Rota. |
