Summary This project supports the ONR Energy Systems Technology Evaluation Program (E-STEP) initiative to reduce energy usage throughout the Navy in both facilities and naval platforms. The preliminary engineering studies will support preparation for larger scale evaluation and implementation in FY13-17. These funds will also support student thesis research in energy saving technologies for ship-board use as part of the Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Energy Curriculum at NPS. These projects will be coordinated with an ONR-funded cost analysis program at NPS (Dr. Dan Nussbaum, PI) and with Mr. Glen Sturtevant from the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) for candidate implementation of surface combatants.
