Summary The aim of the proposed research is to develop a real-time terahertz imaging system using microbolometer focal array technology originally developed for infrared imaging in the 8-12 um band. The detection of THz radiation is typically done using either antenna coupled semiconductor detectors or superconducting bolometers. The imaging of objects using these detection schemes either requires complex scanning mechanisms that slow down the data acquisition or expensive cryogenic cooling which limits the widespread use.
