Summary Past and ongoing research projects have addressed important military decisions with optimization models. This work proposes to continue in this direction and to develop automated decision aids that are based upon that optimization research. Our military officer graduate students provide topics, subject matter expertise, and transition opportunities, and they help ensure that our research is of immediate operational relevance to the warfighter. Proposed research topics and decision tool development efforts include: multi-ship, multi-mission naval operations planning, with continued development of mission planning for various warfighting missions and logistical restrictions, continued study of infrastructure resilience, including new models and algorithms for uncertainty, secrecy, and deception, modeling and assessment of resilience for interdependent infrastructure systems (such as power and communications), improvement to Pacific theatre fuels modeling and resilience improvement, robust and inferential inverse optimization for intelligence development based on partial system response observation, and an integrated approach to worst-case vs. expected-case analysis to determine the vulnerability of operational systems to a range of disruptions.
