Summary |
The goal of this project is to study an alternative topology to the thyristor based pulsed power supply currently in use to discharge the high voltage capacitors into the railgun. The new topology utilizes fully controllable solid state switches, such as integrated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs). A physics based model will be developed and implemented in simulations in order to evaluate the power converter's performance and compare it to the existing power supply. Passive component sizes and overall converter size will be key parameters in the comparison. |
