Summary | The United States Department of Defense (DoD) is sponsoring research aimed at improving the system acquisition process. The Operation Research Center (ORCEN) in the Systems Engineering Department at the United States Military Academy (USMA) is part of a multi-service, industry, and academia team that intends to build an acquisition architecture that facilitates the use of M&S and trade-space analysis early in the conceptual design of future systems. As part of this, a West Point Cadet Capstone Team will build simulations of potential systems in the modeling environment known as MANA (McIntosh, 2009). MANA stands for Map Aware Non-uniform Automata. The model will then be run many times using high-performance computing and efficient design of experiments to characterize the effects of many system variables on the system's ability to accomplish its mission in a breadth of conditions. NPS's SEED Center for Data Farming will partner with the ORCEN at USMA in building the MANA model, designing experiments, and running the model on a computing cluster; thereby, enabling the ORCEN to independently data farm with MANA. |
