Summary During the Fall and Winter of the 2021 - 2022 school year, middle and high school students in military-connected districts (the main focus with be Monterey County) tackle four urgent, authentic challenges relevant to the work of faculty and graduate students at NPS in the fields of cybersecurity, additive manufacturing, climate change, and autonomous systems. Students engage with these Navy career role models virtually, learn about the problems they are addressing, and work in digitally-supported teams to imagine, design, share and pitch their solutions. Those that can attend NPS Day (November 5, 2021) will have an opportunity to meet the Rapid Innovation faculty and graduate students, present their early ideas and receive feedback in person along with a cash prize supported by the NPS Foundation. Through this experience participating students develop skills, resources, connections and mindset to pursue Navy-relevant S&E training and careers, and contribute novel ideas that have the potential to impact Navy innovation that will enhance national security. Rapid Innovation will be delivered on a learning and collaboration platform that we have developed with our education partner with previous ONR STEM funding support.
