Summary	The objective of this proposal is to increase the quality of research opportunities within the Undersea Warfare area at the Naval Postgraduate School. The success of this program towards addressing current Navy needs depends on maintaining an ongoing dialog with other Navy commands and laboratories. Due to the fast pace of USW technology developments, investments are needed on a continual basis to ensure that students are doing thesis work that is current and relevant. An example of the type of investment that has been made and is continuing to be made is in the broad technical area of unmanned systems. It is critical that equipment as well as experienced researchers in this area be available for thesis related work in USW. More generally, thesis topics need to be developed and supported which address capability shortfalls and that give students insights into areas which they can make use of later in their careers.
