Back Fundamental Studies in Secondary Eyewall Formation

Summary | The proposal aims to extend and further substantiate a new model for the phenomenon of secondary eyewall formation (SEF), a process that occurs frequently in mature tropical cyclones yet remains a scientific enigma and a forecast priority for storms threatening landfall in the United States and around the world. The new model builds directly on the PI's prior NSF-supported work and is based on a newly articulated paradigm of tropical cyclone intensification that the PI has developed in collaboration with a distinguished international colleague. |
