Summary |
Background/Context: In studying the human dimension aspect of the Army Operating Concept, the Army identified three lines of effort: "establish cognitive dominance, execute realistic training, and drive institutional agility". The focus of the research in this project will be on cognitive dominance, which is defined as "a position of intellectual advantage over a situation or adversary that fosters proactive agility over reactive adaptation, facilitating the ability to anticipate change before it occurs". Currently the Army does not have the capability to adequately measure and evaluate the cognitive agility levels of its Soldiers. This research intends to address that problem by operationalizing cognitive agility in a military context, conducting a human subjects experiment to test the validity and reliability of the Cognitive Agility wargame utilizing statistical and neuropsychological measures of cognitive agility in a military context. Problem Statement: To operationalize and measure the cognitive agility levels of a military decision maker in the context of a realistic, dynamic military game, in order to support the Army's LOE of Cognitive Dominance. Significant Benefit to the Army: The development of an objective cognitive training model and tool will provide the capability to enhance the decision-making abilities of Army leaders in a complex operating environment and establish cognitive dominance over our adversaries. |
